where the three roads meet
I was surprised to see
the great bronze of Hermes
knocked over, flat on the ground:
people used to worship it here...
now the invincible guardian
lay flat on the ground
but later that night
he appeared by my bed
grinned down at me, said:
"you have to go with the times...
that much I learned
when I was a god"
